Your Style Guide

A Style Guide is a very important element of a brand, it is an asset any firm (large or small) must have.

This is the rule set a brand follows to maintain brand consistency and a solid brand image. Design consistency is a must in print & web communications.

"A style guide or style manual is a set of standards for design and writing of documents, either for general use or for a specific publication or organization." - http://en.wikipedia.org

A style guide should include at minimum the layout rules of the logo, both horizontal and vertical options, with reference to typefaces and pantones.

All mediums should follow your corporate style guide, including web, billboards, print advertising, branded clothing, exterior and interior signage, and so forth.

Your corporate image package (Business Cards, Letterhead, Twitter Background, Memo...) follows the style guide to ensure design and communication consistency. ...Essentially your marketing materials are dictated by your style guide.

This also makes your design and marketing process easier as there are rules to follow.  Your designers, printers, marketing agency, and publishers all are to follow your style guide.

The style guide is not meant to limit creative designs and possibilities, but to establish usage guidelines and standards for various elements of the new identity.  It simply provides a practical set of specifications to ensure that the brand dentity is properly applied and protected.

This ensures that not only the company logo, but the entire identity of the business remains consistent and recognizable.
