Why soma

Long before the confusion and chaos of modern-day big city living, the Native American Hopi tribe had a word for what we should ideally be trying to avoid, a life in turmoil or out of balance, or a state that calls for another way of living. The Hopis called this disintegrating lifestyle “koyaanisqatsi” (COY-on-is-COT-see).

In 1983, director Godfrey Reggio borrowed the term for his critically lauded film, a wordless documentary that espouses the return to natural, simple things. Now we’re borrowing it again to convey to the public what soma is all about and what we’re trying to do.

The word soma refers to the entire body of an organism.

That’s where our holistic approach comes from, as we strive to emphasize the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts.
