Targeting a Paperless Society

The game is changing: We are quickly leaving a world of printed media and entering an age of paperless marketing.

The release and mass-market adoption of devices like netbooks, smart phones, Amazon’s Kindle, and now the Apple iPad signifies a shift that the practice of simply informing customers of your business with a yellow page ad and window sign no longer works. Companies and organizations without a website and integrated marketing plan simply do not exist to many people today. Unfortunately, this is the position many organizations find themselves in.

Marketing has become integrated and interactive, and the speed at which this is happening is increasing. You can’t dictate how people will receive your content, you have to deliver it to them on their terms.

One of our goals this year at soma is to increase the number of devices and browsers we support for websites on our somaICE platform. For our clients, this means a much better browsing experience for their visitors using devices other than desktop computers. Browsing or adding content to your website shouldn’t be a chore when you’re on the go using your iPad. It should be an easy, fun, and enjoyable experience.

We’ll be releasing more information on this including which devices will be supported immediately and which ones will be coming on-board in the months following.

Posing a question to you, the reader: How has your organization embraced the move to paperless marketing? I’d love to read your responses in the comments below.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to give a big welcome to new somaTEAM member Andrew Dupe, who is helping to make these changes with somaICE a reality as part of the somaSUPPORT team. It’s good to have you on the somaTEAM, Andrew! I’m looking forward to working together with you on our next generation marketing initiatives.

I have done away with Canada Post mailings and instead have focused on blogs and Twitter. I also went to paperless files last year. All client docs are emailed. Any paper is scanned and shredded then recycled. Any reports that are unnessessary are cancelled. Mike
